With The Eye Is the First Circle, Simone Dinnerstein ventures into bold interdisciplinary territory alongside projection designer Laurie Olinder and lighting designer Davison Scandrett. Conceived and directed by Dinnerstein, the staged production collages two iconic works — her father Simon Dinnerstein's painting The Fulbright Triptych and Charles Ives's Piano Sonata No. 2 (Concord) — into a disorientingly immersive visual space. Animated elements of the painting and real-time video surround Dinnerstein's searching performance, asking how our origin stories shape us and how a sense of self emerges from the fragments we remember from childhood.
