Seohyun Kim
Violinist Seohyun Kim has made her name as a rising star on the international stage as the winner of the 2023 Tibor Varga Competition at just 14 years old. Other notable competitions include first-prize wins at the 2022 Thomas and Evon Cooper Violin Competition and both the Leonid Kogan and Ysaÿe International Violin Competitions in 2021.
Born in Seoul, South Korea in 2008, by the age of eight Seohyun had performed as a soloist with orchestras and chamber ensembles. She was a semi-finalist and the youngest competitor in the 2021 Menuhin Competition, marking her debut on the international stage. In 2020 Seohyun performed for the Kumho Young Artist Concert Series and, in 2021, she performed in Hungary with the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra and Maestro Gilbert Varga. Seohyun’s collaborations include those with numerous orchestras in South Korea and abroad, including the Canton Symphony Orchestra in the United States, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, the Bursa Symphony Orchestra in Turkey, the Korean National Symphony Orchestra, the Seoul, Seongnam, Jeonju, and Mokpo Philharmonics, the Daejeon International Music Festival Orchestra, and the Daegu Opera House. Seohyun made her U.S. recital debut in 2023 for the Dame Myra Hess Series in Chicago and returned as soloist for the opening concert of the Canton Symphony Orchestra’s 2023-24 season giving the world premiere of a new work by composer Jeff Scott.
Seohyun’s 2023-24 season includes recitals at the Tongyeong International Music Festival, the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, and the Sion Festival. 2024-25 highlights include solo performances with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Jaap Van Zweden and invitations to perform with the orchestras in Spain, the United States, Switzerland and across South Korea.
Seohyun currently studies with Sunny Lee at the Seoul Central Conservatory, and plays on a G.B. Guadagnini, generously sponsored by the Tibor Varga Family.
