John Zion

John Zion

Managing Director

John Zion has served as the Managing Director of MKI Artists since taking ownership of the firm in 2015. He oversees strategic planning and operations, and directs the careers of a prestigious roster of international artists. He serves on the board of Chamber Music America and has presented on arts-related issues at the Manhattan School of Music, the University at Buffalo, APAP|NYC, Chamber Music America’s National Conference, and the Avaloch Farm Music Institute.

In 2012, he was named one of the “Rising Stars in the Performing Arts” by Musical America. John studied at Lawrence University and the Hartt School of Music; before coming to MKI Artists, he performed regularly as a violinist with orchestras throughout New England, taught public-school music, and toured Vietnam with his string quartet. In his free time, John enjoys cooking, reading, and traveling.

Brooke Quiggins-Saulnier

Brooke Quiggins-Saulnier

DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

Brooke Quiggins-Saulnier serves as the Director of Operations at MKI Artists, overseeing operations, human resources, and finances while playing an important role assisting with strategic planning. Prior to relocating to Vermont in 2017, she previously served as the Assistant Director of Student Affairs at the Manhattan School of Music (MSM), where she planned and directed major events, and oversaw staff and student committees. She has participated in Chamber Music America’s National Conference.

Brooke studied violin performance at MSM, where she earned her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees. She continues to perform actively as a freelance violinist. In her free time, Brooke enjoys running, hiking, and drinking Vermont beer.

Katie Backus

Katie Backus

Artist Manager & Booking Representative 
Eastern U.S.

Katie Backus has worked as an Artist Manager and Booking Agent since joining MKI Artists in 2013. She oversees booking for the eastern half of the United States while helping manage a prestigious roster of international artists. She is currently a fellow in APAP’s Emerging Leadership Institute and has been an active participant at Chamber Music America’s national conference, the Arts Midwest Arts Conference, and South Arts’ Performing Arts Exchange.

Katie studied violin and viola at the University of Rhode Island, graduating with a degree in music education, and taught strings both in public schools and privately for fifteen years before moving to Vermont. In her free time Katie coaches a running group, gardens, skis, and loves to travel. An avid hiker, she is attempting to climb all of the 4,000’-plus mountains in New England.

Kate Barnes

Kate Barnes

Artist Manager & Booking Representative 
Western U.S. & Canada

Kate Barnes has worked as an Artist Manager and Booking Agent since joining MKI Artists in 2006. She oversees booking for the western half of the United States, as well as Canada and Mexico, while helping to manage a prestigious roster of international artists. She has been an active participant at APAP|NYC, Chamber Music America’s national conference, the Western Arts Alliance Annual Conference, Arts Midwest Arts Conference, and South Arts’ Performing Arts Exchange.

A graduate of Deerfield Academy and Brown University, where she studied history and creative writing, Kate serves on her local school board and loves reading, running, and being a parent. Trained as a pianist, she is enjoying the opportunity to pass on her love of all kinds of music to her three children.

Julie Gaitens

Julie Gaitens

Artist Manager & Booking Representative 
Orchestras

Julie Gaitens has worked as an Artist Manager and Booking Agent since joining MKI Artists in 2016. She oversees booking with orchestras throughout North America while helping to manage a prestigious roster of soloists and conductors. Over the past twenty-five years, she worked as an artist manager and booking agent at Frank Salomon Associates, IMG Artists, and Herbert Barrett Management. She has been an active participant at the League of American Orchestras national conference.

Originally from New Mexico, Julie now works from, and lives in, North Carolina with her husband, son, and high-strung cat. In her free time Julie enjoys baking, listening to podcasts, and spending time with her family.

Nic Vigilante

Nic Vigilante

Artist Liaison

Nic Vigilante has worked as MKI’s Artist Liaison since joining the company in 2018. He oversees tour planning and production, travel and logistics, programs and repertoire, and work permits and visas for MKI’s prestigious roster of international artists.

Nic graduated from Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music with degrees in viola performance and chemistry. An active performer, Nic specializes in contemporary and baroque music, championing unusual programming, collaborations, and venues. In his spare time, Nic enjoys reading a variety of genres, going to shows, and enjoying Vermont.
